So You Want to Have a Go?
Fullbore target rifle shooting is a challenging sport with a proud history in Australia, in most other Commonwealth countries and in the United States of America as well. If you want to have a go, then you need to express an interest via the contact form below.
This will ensure that an Authorised Instructor is present and aware of the introductory shoot. It will also allow our New Shooter Co-ordinator to ensure that the necessary club equipment is on the range, and that an experienced club member is available to coach you – one on one. An introductory session will cost you just $30 and there is no obligation to either join the Club or to obtain a firearms licence just to have a go.
Existing members may personally introduce and coach a prospective member – one on one – provided an Authorised Instructor is present and aware of the introductory shoot, and the necessary club equipment has been booked ahead of time.
What don’t we do?
We do not cater for groups – commercial paintball operators are the go for that – the introductory events are only for individuals who are considering taking up our sport – and we are not into:
pistols or hand guns – contact http://www.cnpc.org.au/ or the SSAA – see below;
small bore target rifle or air rifle – contact http://actsmallborerifleclub.com;
practices or training related to hunting or vermin control; nor
old types of rifles per se, apart from one or two .303” shoots that we conduct each year.
How do I book my first introductory event, and what’s involved?
If after reading this document you wish to register for an initial introduction to full bore target rifle then you can do so by filling in the contact form below. We will then negotiate a mutually acceptable date and time. It will most likely be on a Saturday morning. Subsequent visits must be similarly negotiated as our capacity to provide the one-on-one supervision and the equipment required is limited, and subsequent visits are only available on certain Saturdays.
Please do not assume that you have a slot within an event until it is confirmed by the Coordinator
You do not need a firearm’s licence or permit to have a go. Please do not bring any firearms or ammunition – we will provide these. Wear sturdy clothing and shoes (including a long sleeve top) that can get slightly dirty. Do bring ear plugs, ear muffs, and a small camp stool if you have them.
The minimum age for participation is 12 years. You will fire one stage of 10 shots. You will be charged $30 for each of the introductory events available to you.
